Where we are
Our chambre d’hotes (bed and Breakfast) is situated in Southern Burgundy, in the department of Saone-et-Loire, in a green, woodland setting. Nearby are cycleways and paths for walkers, interesting and historic towns, well-regarded vineyards, more than 20 chateaux, prehistoric site, caves and Romanesque churches dating from the 11th and 12th centuries.
Our hamlet of Mondornon, (20 inhabitants) is part of the commune of St Prive, along with Lanzy, Prettement, Le Frombeau and Fontaine-Alle.
We are easily accessible from the A6 ( Autoroute du soleil). Leave the motorway at Junction 6- Chalons-sur-Saone. Turn left onto the N80, in the direction of Montceau-les-Mines and Le Creusot. Follow this road to exit 6, signed Marcilly-les-Buxy. Take this exit, and turn left, crossing the bridge over the N80 and continue to the STOP sign. Follow the D977 towards Buxy, then at the sign for St Prive turn right onto the D236. Follow this road to the STOP sign, then turn left into the village of Le Martrat. Keep on the D236 through the village. Follow the signs to Le Puley until you seem a war memorial on your right. Turn right into Mondornon: after 200 metres you will find us on the left (house number 30).

In the area
Walks
Our region is a treasure trove for walkers. As well as many forest and country paths we have a local guidebook which you can consult. The long-distance path, GR7, passes 200 metres from our house.
Cycle Ways
Cyclists of all levels of experience can enjoy themselves, thanks to the Green Way (Voie Vert) which was formed by the conversion of a former railway into a cycle way. You can ride through villages and countryside completely away from road traffic, with only gentle hills to climb. 80 km long, the Voie Vert lets you start in Chalons-sur-Saone, and travel through Buxy, St Gengoux-le-National and Cluny, ending in Macon. Check the tourist office for bicycle hire.
Wine tasting
Burgundy’s reputation as a wine-growing area is second to none. Its vineyards extend in a narrow band on a line from Dijon to Lyon, with the appellations of Chablis and Tonnere marking its northern boundary, near the town of Auxerre. Our chambre d’hotes is situated near to the Cote Chalonnais. Well-known appellations such as Mercurey, Givry, Rully and Montagny are just to the north of us, while to the south you will find the appellations of the Maconnais, like Macon and Macon-Villages, Saint-Veran and Pouilly-Fuisse. The Maconnais is also well known for the production of the sparkling wine Cremant de Bourgogne.
Within an hour’s drive in either direction you will find some very famous wine areas. To the north, towards Beaune, are Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard, Meursault and Beaune, To the south are the 10 crus of Beaujolais: Julienas, Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Saint-Amour and others are within easy reach.
You can taste wine in many of the domaines or wine makers’ homes you will encounter in the course of your journey. The golden rule: taste, but drink moderately!Outings and things to see
Chateau lovers will not be disappointed by the department of Saone-et-Loire, which has around 25 chateaux of all sorts open to the public: large and small, ancient (10th and 11th century) and more modern, up to the 17th century. If you have a passion for the Romanesque, there are 80 sites dating from 10th and 11th century.
If you like wonderful panoramic views, you will love the countryside to the south of Cluny, as well as the valley of the Guye, the Solutre and Vergisson cliffs, and Mont St Vincent where, on a clear day you can get a glimpse of the summits of the Alps. There are caves to visit as well. For those who would like a gentle and easy visit there is the cave of Aze, while bolder cave-lovers can try the Blanot system. These two grottoes are next to one another in the Maconnais wine country: a trip for wine-lovers, perhaps..?
Towns and Museums
There is a host of towns famous for their cultural and historic heritage, all no more than an hour away. Beaune, Tournus, Autun, Chalons-sur-Saone, Macon and Cluny are all close.
